The United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland is four-year institution of higher learning that has graduated more than 60,000 midshipmen since its founding in 1845. The core curriculum at the Naval Academy includes course work in such subjects as engineering, math, humanities, and science. Students, or midshipmen, also receive intensive training in Navy and Marine Corps operations in preparation for field assignments upon graduation. The Naval Academy campus, located adjacent to Chesapeake Bay, is referred to as the “Yard.” The campus spans 338 acres.

Naval Academy Academics.

Regardless of major, Naval Academy students/midshipmen graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree. The academic program at USNA is categorized by divisions with coursework specific to the discipline. Divisions include: Engineering and Weapons, Humanities & Social Sciences, Information Technology Services, Math & Science, Officer Development, and Professional Development. Midshipmen Athletics.

Sport is serious business among Naval Academy midshipmen. In addition to stellar varsity sports, the Naval Academy offers club sports, camps, co-ed varsity sports, and fitness facilities open to all midshipmen. The popular Army-Navy series is a time-honored tradition that is loyally followed by civilians and the armed forces. The Naval Academy’s varsity teams compete in men’s and women’s sports. Naval Academy Tours.

Tours of the United States Naval Academy are offered throughout the year during regular business hours. The front desk staff at Historic Inns of Annapolis can recommend local tour companies, or visitors can arrange for a tour at the Academy’s Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center. Visitors age 16 or older must have a photo ID to visit the USNA campus. A variety of public tours are available including the Historical Tour, Tour & Tea, and Military Reunion Tour.
